The European Southern Observatory announced this Wednesday about the discovery of the proto-supercluster galaxy named Hyperion. This is way more bigger than the one billion million Suns. Itis noticed to be found as a very complex structure which was located in the constellation of the Sextans.
Scientists have named this structure as the ancient colossal structure, so is the name. Reports have been made that it has appeared about 2.3 million years after the discovery of the Big Bang that was 13.7 million years ago.
The discovery was made using data from the VIMOS Ultra-deep survey which helps in measuring the distance to hundreds of galaxies, map positions within the forming supercluster in 3D, on the very big telescope ESO.
Astronomer Brian Lemaux who co-led the team in this discovery said in an interview that, “Superclusters closer to the Earth tend to have a much more concentrated distribution of mass with clear structural features. But in Hyperion, the mass is distributed with much more uniformity in a series of connected blobs populated by loose associations of galaxies.”
Scientists all over have been surprised as something big like the Big Bang which was discovered 2 billion years ago.. and this is with away more huge structure discovery been made now.
Astronomers have also discussed over Hyperion being able to gather matter together into dense regions. Giving it a few million years more would give the astronomers a way more bigger cluster of galaxy than the Hyperion it seems.
Lead Author Olga Cucciati said in an article,”This is the first time that such a large structure has been identified, just two billion years after the Big Bang. Normally these kinds of structures are known to be at lower redshifts, which means when the Universe has had much more time to evolve and construct such huge things.”
“It was a surprise to see something like this evolve when the Universe was relatively young. Unearthing this cosmic titan helps uncover the history of thelarge-scale structures,” she added.
